Katie Holmes went viral late last year after she arrived to a red carpet event in a Y2K inspired getup.

And the Dawson’s Creek star, 44, displayed her fearless fashion sense once again as she stepped out in NYC on Thursday.

Holmes showed off her killer legs in a bizarre fringe skirt by designer Kate Hundley that was made up of strips of black leather held together by linked rivets.

She tucked a plain white tee into the waistband of her edgy skirt and threw on a preppy brown wool blazer with shoulder pads.

Holmes was en route to the Laura Pels Theatre, where she will attend opening night of her off-Broadway show The Wanderers.

The mother-of-one strolled the sidewalk in black velvet heels and added black semi-sheer tights for a classic touch.

She had a noticeable tan and a head of curly, brunette hair framed her face.

Holmes gave her look some sparkle by accessorizing with silver hoop earrings, a statement ring on her right hand and a nose ring.

The ex-wife of Tom Cruise flashed a warm smile in the direction of passersby before slipping into the backseat of a chauffeured SUV.

Holmes became a viral sensation this past December after attending Z100’s iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in an outfit that looked straight out of the early aughts.

She was widely mocked on social media for hitting a red carpet in a long tunic over baggy jeans.

But the Batman Begins star’s stylist Brie Welch defended the look, explaining that it was a collaboration of her styling and Holmes’ own fashion taste.

‘We decided the rich color and subtle bustier effect detailing of the top was elegant and would be fun if paired with jeans, creating a more youthful feel for Jingle Ball and the atmosphere there,’ she told the New York Times.

Welch also revealed that it was Katie’s idea to pair the outfit with sneakers, as she wanted to be comfortable enough to dance.

‘On the day of (and because Katie has her own effortless style that should be appreciated here), she said she wanted to wear sneakers, because it was a concert and obviously there would be a lot of dancing to Dua Lipa (and nothing is more comfortable!).’ she added.

Welch went on to note that the star is ‘more than capable of looking cool in an unintentional trend 20 years later.’

The Wanderers is a play by playwright Anna Ziegler and follows the lives of two Jewish couples, one Orthodox and the other secular, who are both challenged by the question: ‘Can we be happy with what we have while we have it?’

‘Orthodox Jews Esther (Lucy Freyer) and Schmuli (Dave Klasko) are newly married, and their future is written in the laws of the Torah,’ the official description reads.

‘Secular Jew Abe (Eddie Kaye Thomas) is a famous novelist who believes he can write his own future… until an unexpected email from a movie star puts his marriage to the test and threatens to prove him wrong.’

Holmes plays the role of Abe’s mistress, Julia Cheever, who is also a married, high-profile celebrity.

It also stars: Sarah Cooper, Jed Resnick, Gabrielle McClinton and Rachel Zeiger-Haag.

Previews began in late January and, due to high demand, the show will run through April 2.

It marks Holmes’ debut with the Roundabout Theatre Company, according to Playbill.

The Laura Pels Theatre, where the show will be playing for the duration of its off-Broadway run, is located in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre.

After landing a career-making role on Dawson’s Creek back in the late 90s, Holmes has appeared in nearly 40 films and has since ventured into producing, directing and writing.

But she recently revealed to Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon that she nearly quit acting at the age of 17.

After nabbing her first acting gig in Ang Lee’s 1997 film The Ice Storm, Holmes said she struggled to land any more jobs – and feared her career was over after just one movie.

‘Well, I was 17, and I remember we came to New York, my mom and I, and we shot it, and I thought, “Oh, this is what I want to do”. Great,’ she recalled.

‘And then I went home, and I was putting myself on tape for different auditions, and I wasn’t really getting anything and I thought, “Oh, well, that might be it. You know. That might be all there is.”‘

‘But it was okay, ’cause I was like, “You know what, that’s okay. Like, that was an amazing experience. And I can, like, tell my grandkids and I’ll be fine”.’

She recalled that she had ‘got lucky’ landing the film role in The Ice Storm because she went to Los Angeles to take part in the auditions for pilot season and got the job on her second day.

Holmes said: ‘It was my second day in Los Angeles and my first audition. I got lucky.’

Despite the early hardships, Holmes did not give up on her dreams and would eventually land role of Joey in teen drama Dawson’s Creek which propelled her to international stardom.

The actress appeared in the show for six seasons over five years alongside Michelle Williams, James Van Der Beek and Joshua Jackson.
