Kanye West often makes news. While he was mostly in the press for his connection with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her family, the musician officially known as Ye is now in the news for his shocking anti-Semitic tweets. This, combined with his support for the White Lives Matter campaign, reportedly led to Vogue severing relations with him.
Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, apparently has had enough of the rapper and has notified everyone that he is “no longer part of the inner circle.” Keep reading.
A Vogue spokesman informed Page Six on Friday that neither the magazine nor its editor-in-chief Anna Wintour had any plans to collaborate with Kanye West in light of his anti-Semitic comments and support for the White Lives Matter movement.
Anna Wintour and Kanye West have had a tight friendship for more than a decade. Anna originally invited Ye to her annual Met Gala in 2009, and then featured him and his now-ex-wife Kim Kardashian on the cover of her magazine following their wedding in 2014. Just one month ago, Wintour was photographed modelling the rapper’s new eyewear brand for promotional press photos.
At the beginning of the month, the editor-in-chief of Vogue sent her longtime close friend Baz Luhrmann to film the reconciliation between West and one of her editors, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, after he mocked her fashion sense for criticising him for wearing a White Lives Matter T-shirt to his Paris fashion show. However, Anna has had enough of these sources.
Friday insiders informed the aforementioned outlet that Anna Wintour is now prepared to release Kanye West. This was the outcome of his making a series of shocking threats against Jewish people and then doubling down on them after being offered the chance to apologise. The source stated, “Anna has had enough,” adding, “She has made it quite obvious within Vogue that Kanye is no longer a member of the inner circle.”
While this appears to be the directive at Vogue, we wonder how it will be implemented. Does this no-ties rule imply that Vogue’s website will no longer feature photographs from his fashion shows? That remains to be seen. But because he is ‘no longer part of the inner circle,’ we may never see Ye at another Met Gala or on the cover of a magazine again.
